Why not jump directly to the final conclusion: Could we just be in state of nirvana?
Lovely to at last stumble upon a bit of philosophy which is deeper than the philosophy going into the design of Clojure. :face_with_rolling_eyes: (sneering at myself)
Tempted to try out an underdesk treadmill, because why not - the human body loves movement for keeping itself healthy. Very likely there's no perfect static posture that you can rely on for long periods. Anyone has an experience report? Wondering if it would end up being too much of a distraction for focused work.
Probably my perfect setup would also include a projector - I've used one for the past year to great effect.
I’ve been using a treadmill / standing desk for over a year. On average, I walk 1-2 hrs per day, stand for 2-4 hrs (meetings), and sit elsewhere for the rest. Have been gradually increasing speed, used to use 0.9-1.2 mph, now do about 1.2-1.6 (slower when doing more thinking). On average, my daily steps increased about 500/day last year, with increased speed expect more this year. I feel 10x better - has removed some back pain, and generally improved digestion. You do build up static electricity, so need to be careful about grounding, there are anti-static mats you can get.
Great to hear, thanks! Would you find it feasible to walk at minimum speed for 4+ hours, or the body starts to complain?
depends on the person, the speed, and what you’re doing. I would not walk for 4 hours straight - I usually do 2 periods of walking a day for 30-60 min each.
I got one and love it. A flexible setup where you can easily switch between walking/sitting is ideal. Personally I aim for 2 hrs treadmill time throughout the day.
What speed do you use?
I have this treadmill https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BK3DK7PZ with an electronic adjustable standing desk and a projector in the adjoining room that projects on the wall in front of my desk. I tend to walk most of the day unless I’m on camera, somewhere between 1-3 mph depending on if I’m typing at the keyboard or just watching the screen. I walked 13.5 yesterday and averaged ~10/day on the treadmill this past week.
recently went on a deep dive on this but not long enough into it for an experience report (link that got me started) https://ocdevel.com/blog/20240109-fitness-desk
I got a WalkingPad for now - may upgrade to something fancier (apparently these things make noise) if successful Interesting concern on knee health per the link above. I've had issues in the past, related to aggressive sports but I learned to overcome them and even get to a stronger situation than ever before. I wouldn't be too worried - common knowledge says that humans evolved to walk all day. My dad happily walks multiple hours every day.
I kept hammocking and I think I'll cancel my walkingpad order, would be interested in an elliptical instead (makes a lot of sense for an avid cyclist ^^) This one looks decent https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sTSl_yU_Iw
