I've been using Dark mode in the web more often (mostly because I use a projector and switching black -> white with cmd-tab is particularly annoying there) and I still find it so often poorly implemented 🥲 most times it looks like an afterthought. Wondering if anyone uses a trusty Chrome extension that may fix them somehow. The main defect I find is choosing background colors that are too close to #000000 - absolute black. I'd love if those could be automatically softened to dark grey. In which case you'd also have to slightly lighten any existing dark greys, to keep the intended contrast between elements.
ducky ducky... https://github.com/darkreader/darkreader it is slightly lowering 'brightness' and 'contrast' resulted in the consistent dark grey I was looking for
I am using the Stylus plugin for sites that I frequent alot . It applies CSS layouts that users have created and sometimes a good dark mode is available. dont know about its trustyness though
thanks! So far (today) I've been delighted with Dark Reader. One gets a surprising consistency across sites. I can tweak a few controls until they all look similarly. But yeah, it's good to have options.
I have Slack set to give notifications only in PMs and mentions, but now I am suddenly getting notifications for posts in threads, despite not being mentioned. Is there a way to disable that? This seems like a new Slack feature considering that it didn’t happen to me until yesterday.
Yeah, same. Haven't tested (since I have notifications disabled globally and just see how the tray icon badge has a different color now), but maybe this checkbox does it?
Not to derail the thread too much, but notifications are such a PITA in this day and age... There are multiple settings in each app and somehow more often then not there's something that either doesn't work or works in a way different from what you actually want.
yeah, I agree with that sentiment a lot. It reminds me of how broken notifications are on iOS 😄 --- For now I think I’m going to set “Notify me about…” to “Nothing”, since that is closer to the old behavior with respect to threads
I thought you always got notified about new posts in threads that you had posted in yourself -- I haven't noticed that behavior change.
seems like every app update is an excuse to opt you in to a new subset of notifications so the product team has a built-in justification for the feature they just shipped. "hey, look, our new feature boosts engagement!"
@U04V70XH6 in my case, only the “Threads” item in the sidebar would be highlighted. Now I get that together with a red badge on the Slack icon. I still get the red badge after selecting “Notify me about nothing”
Ah, gotcha...
(I just got that red dot notification for this very thread)
