I've recently been enjoying https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3RKA4vunFAfrfxiJhPEplw for architecture stuff

Drew Verlee06:03:40

@UK0810AQ2 really any educational resource, i just wanted to make the question quickly approachable.

Drew Verlee07:03:11

I'm currently enjoying watching this prof be very excited about databases (especially sql). I started with the advanced db classes. I'll probably have to do the assignments to really grasp things though. https://youtube.com/@CMUDatabaseGroup A tad sad datomic never gets love even as a dismissal lol

Drew Verlee07:03:09

He is passionate, and I'll take a passionate bias over an apathy any day.

Casey Muratory, PWL in general, William Byrd, Kevlin Henny

I've been watching/listening a lot of Conor Hoekstra for the past year https://youtube.com/@code_report

practicalli-johnny11:03:00

I quite like the style of Oliver Caldwell, very good at sharing the thought process whist live coding https://youtube.com/@OliverCaldwell I am going to update a lot of the Clojure videos I've created on the Practicalli channel this year, so I am pretty sure I wont be my own favourite after watching 100+ hours of myself 😭

I'm shopping around for a domain name and came up with a name I like but the dot com is being squatted on for a premium price I can't justify paying. None of the other TLDs are taken. Is it safe enough to go with an alternative TLD or is the squatter going to be a potential problem?

p-himik22:03:30

It's a completely separate domain, shouldn't be a problem at all.

sheluchin22:03:36

If I develop some value on the domain, couldn't the squatter activate their .com TLD with some content that could hurt my brand? I think most people autopilot to .com, but I guess that's something that's changing.

p-himik22:03:02

Yes, but I wouldn't worry. You can have many other ways to specify which domain should actually be used by users. Official Twitter/Facebook/whatever accounts, maybe records in some public business registries, whatever else.

p-himik22:03:44

If you really care about names and will have products attached to those names, it's much more important to have a proper trademark in place rather than a perfect domain.

sheluchin22:03:49

My understanding is that once you have a trademark you can take over squatted domains, but it's kind of a lengthy process and might cost some money.

hifumi12301:03:18

I think maintaining a trademark will be the least of your concerns if you end up generating value with a name and typosquatting is detrimental to that. It’s a cost I’d consider on par with the annual registration filings that we have to do in the US each year to keep a business.

Just thought some people here may want to know that according to the Treasury/FDIC/Fed, all SVB depositors will be made 100% whole. I know some people here may have/work for companies with some funds locked up that will appreciate this news. https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/jy1337
