I’m about to take 2 weeks off from work. I’m looking forward to writing some more Clojure during that time. Or is this a bad idea, and I should just give myself time away from computers?
I think I consider time off as time to reenergize, so in that sense do whatever gives you energy. For me, sometimes doing work does so, but not all kinds of work. Other times not touching a computer is also super nice.
Try to keep away from the computer at least for the first half, and if you get an itch to program just scratch it instead of making vacation feel like work
I would advocate for as little screen-time as possible: go for walks, read a physical book, hang out with folks in the analog world 😉
This thread is so wholesome. For me the greatest thing to do would be to write an emacs lisp package for something I always wanted
I've enjoyed vacations where I coded, but only with pencil and paper. So I might noodle out ideas, but only on flattened trees. I would refactor by grabbing a new clean sheet. I found this to be fun, but YMMV
if you're looking forward, why not 😸 personally my urge to write clojure comes and goes, good to ride the wave when it's there
speaking of which, along the with the comment from @U04V5VAUN about doing what energizes you, I will probably put some time into integrating Raphael into Asami before the new year. It’ll be cool to be able to load RDF data at last.
I was just feeling guilty for wanting to spend time on a computer. Thank you for the validation everyone 🙂
I have two weeks off coming up and I will be physically away from my computers and at least partially off the grid so I won't be tempted 🙂 But I will admit that when I take days off work here and there, that tends to be when I work on OSS projects so... 🤷:skin-tone-2:
Completely off topic here: I thought that for Christmas I would do a Lego Miniature of my extended family. When I went to the official Lego Website though, it appears their choices are very very limited and I cannot represent everybody in my family effectively. I have looked around in Google and found out that there are other websites offering this services, but I am little bit lost about what would be the best one. I was wondering if any expert on the matter here could redirect me to a website where they have more choices.
You always have two choices: Reduce the amount of figures that you have or the other option...
What I would do is, build abstract models out of ordinary red, blue, yellow, and white bricks. About a meter tall. The key thing, however, is to think ahead. Will you need to transport or even mail the models? In that case, just send the bricks + exploded-diagram instructions and let the family experience the fun of building their own models from your plans.
I think it would be better to use something translucent because this way the final product would be way more appealing. Also you may want to include some kind of laser cutters or other tools to work with this material, because it can be quite time-consuming to get the hang of it and not break this glass-like material. You could use diamonds too, they're very pretty. But the downside of this is that then you basically have to use tools that have diamonds in it (you need diamond to polish and work with diamond).
