Is this big tech layoffs just that - layoffs only in big tech because they hired like crazy in recent past, or is this going to be a bigger thing? Any ideas?

There is also a third option - squeeze. i.e. sack + rehire with more work. This is an old video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=988w2Yq9UtI

The video that I posted was 2 years ago and I think that jobs weren't remote. The video talks about cars in a parking lot which means that it's surely physical jobs that end up like this. So corona may be a red herring here. This has always been happening.

You can always find something to blame. Green washing, Facebook, Terrorism, Trump, Corona, War... what a list

All the VC money and empty promises dried up + pressure from investors

I made a decision that I may regret: decided to play again "Zelda - A Link to the Past", a classic that have so many meaningful things for me, but a randomized version.... Oh well... I'm almost getting the first... whatever it'll get me... and I still don't have a sword 😱

those were really good memories… but I don’t know why: as a kid I always preferred to play Zelda - Link’s Awakening on my Gameboy :-)
