I deleted my facebook and reddit accounts and disciplined myself to not look at my phone only to end up browsing memes on this Slack 😄

I hear ya! I had Facebook and Twitter accounts for years (a decade plus?) and deleted both of them about a year ago...

seancorfield03:10:26

...that lasted about six months, but it was just too inconvenient when I went to England (from the US) and was trying to organize meetups with all my friends there... which used to be all done via Facebook... so I ended up creating new Facebook (and Twitter) accounts 😞

Yeah... family members don't understand... and don't want to switch to signal/whatever

seancorfield05:10:21

I can understand that. I have Signal for a bunch of friends who hate FB/Twitter but I think it sucks as a UX and it's a tiny island with zero discoverability.

Martynas Maciulevičius05:10:59

But that's the point of it. The less discoverable it is, the less social-graph-action you have (even though signal collects your phone number+contacts and for that reason it's still bad)

I also wonder where I'd be, what more I'd have done, and what I'd be doing right now if all these social media/smartphone hadn't come to be. I might have just watched more TV, played more video games, and read more books, but I like to think that I'd actually have like learned new skills, traveled more, met more meaningful people, etc. haha. Though it's probably the former.

Any non-smokers who bought a Ferrari recently? :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:

Heh, I was indeed wandering - thought it was something local but was too lazy to look it up. Thanks!
