Struggling to remember a word. If a numeric value falls in the range [a; b]
, what do you call (- b a)
? Not magnitude, not variation, should be something else.
Yeah, just noticed that apparently statistics uses the same word for it:

But kinda strange to call both [a; b]
and (- b a)
"range".
> Bounded intervals are https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bounded_set, in the sense that their https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diameter (which is equal to the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absolute_difference between the endpoints) is finite. The diameter may be called the length, width, measure, range, or size of the interval. sigh "range" it is then. At least in my mind it sounds better than the rest.
