https://twitter.com/chrishouser/status/1334358203245752322 chouser makes a cool macro that creates bindings for regexes. Really cool and I didn't know that you could actually name regex capture groups

(spoiler for advent of code but neat)

Hi Clojurians. Im trying to put my finger on a Rich Hickey quote I came across recently but is now slipping and probably morphing in my brain. I think I saw it in the 'forward' section or preamble to a book or article that was software, but I think not directly Clojure related. I recall the gist being something to the effect of software/quality needing to be valued right across its lifetime as opposed to just at some moment in time. That could be it or it could be me happily projecting my own prejudices on what I remember. Does this trigger anything for anyone that they can recall?

Nevermind, found it "“Most systems need to succeed over time, not merely at a point in time. A fascinating exploration of predicative dynamic dispatch, metadata, and other techniques for building flexible systems that can be enhanced without breaking.” Rich Hickeyauthor of Clojure and architect of Datomic

You might be remembering a slide from “simple made easy”

Craig Brozefsky15:12:25

@noisesmith -- I think we actually agree on all that about the collab space, except that I think they paid way too much for Slack userbase

noisesmith16:12:45

OK wow I didn't realize they spent that much

mpenet15:12:24

that's a lot per user heh

mpenet15:12:42

then again we were saying the same when fb acquired instagram for 1B

10bn of which was borrowed in cash from Citi / Bank of America/ JP Morgan. Must be nice to be in a position to say, Gee, I'd love to buy that company, but I'm ten billion short. Could you float me a loan?

timo08:12:02

And don't forget the giant bubble of profit-seeking capital that is floating around increasing the value of almost anything that has the slightest forecast of profit. (housing, stock, investment)

Craig Brozefsky18:12:34

well 20B in revenue will open alot of doors

dpsutton18:12:16

that's how almost everyone does large purchases. car loans and mortgages. not sure why this should be different

hiredman18:12:50

well, the difference is large companies tend to use the companies they are buying as collateral to get the loan to buy the company

hiredman18:12:16

e.g. if you listed the car you are going to buy as collateral on the loan you need to get to buy the car

dpsutton18:12:34

the car is always the bank's property during the term of the loan right?

hiredman18:12:36

I dunno if salesforce did that here

dpsutton18:12:42

and they will reposses it if you don't make payments

dgb2318:12:54

I’m getting phishing attacks (via SMS and phone calls) from a company masquerading as a covid contact tracing org. I wish I had some way to trap them, get their address or similar…

paul.legato20:12:43

The salesforce loan is unsecured
