Hadn't realised #clojure is at 17K users sheepysheepy. I thought we were like 10K

@vemv FWIW, about 1,700 members are considered active in an ongoing basis. I think that it would cost $9-11K per month to run this community on a paid plan (I can't remember how to find the definitive statement about "active for billing" -- other than, I guess, starting in on the upgrade process).

There are actually some third party companies that now let set up subscriptions around a slack basically creating a per user pay model, and handles invites etc

solf03:12:27

Wouldn't we qualify for a non-profit plan? https://slack.com/intl/en-sg/help/articles/204368833

solf03:12:54

Nevermind, I forgot non-profit has a legal meaning, it's not just for any group that doesn't seek money. Still worth a shot, I feel like #clojurians is a very good pub for Slack

andy.fingerhut03:12:03

I suspect Slack gets way more publicity in ways other than #clojurians using it (and money).

seancorfield03:12:51

@U7S5E44DB Even if we qualified (we don't), that would only provide an 85% discount so it would still cost several thousand dollars a month to run on the standard plan.

I'll throw in $5

Zach Tellman (of elements of clojure fame) was on this podcast this week, talking about FP and attitudes towards programming: https://corecursive.com/042-zach-tellman-software-in-context/

I believe there was a strange loop talk on climate change a couple years back, does anyone recall that or have the link? Probably a key note, I'm trying to hunt it down.

Alex Miller (Clojure team)18:12:11

that doesn't ring a bell to me without more info. was it at Software with a Mission or main conf?

Alex Miller (Clojure team)18:12:09

I can recall a talk at Conj by George Kierstein

eggsyntax20:12:10

During her and my short-lived exploratory climate visualization startup 😄

Alex Miller (Clojure team)18:12:19

and there was one at Heart of Clojure I think?

Alex Miller (Clojure team)18:12:40

those are my best guesses for you

seancorfield18:12:39

I remember George's Conj talk but she was talking about data and data set structure/integrity more than specifically climate change I think?

Alex Miller (Clojure team)18:12:36

you bring me vague questions, I give you tangential answers :)
