I was never sure what the excitement about slack was for technical topics, but hey never mind. A specific annoyance I can't rid myself of though, is that however many times I've clicked to close it ― a right hand side bar with a private conversation I had two months ago, always shows up whenever I open to the clojurians slack.

Any idea how to rid myself of it?

my only annoyance with slack is that its concept of "read messages" differs vastly from mine

have to check "mark as read" all the damn time

...went to see if i could change that, indeed now it's fixed 😅

@joelsanchez me too. always have wanted the irc behavior of just scrolling back if i’m interested. where do you change this?

you can use the escape key to mark as read

that's better, at least...

there's no "Start me at the newest message, mark the channel as read, AND mark all the messages as read"

@matan: You can open activity panel to replace it - the @ sign in the upper-right. If you want to close that, too, just click it again and the side panel should go away.
