@tbaldridge : did you ever plan with rewriting systems, or was it rule-systems you were talking about earlier?

qqq02:04:52

s/plan/play

tbaldridge02:04:10

rules engines is what I was discussing earlier

qqq14:04:42

some time ago, in some file, in this git repo, I deleted a file called foo-bar-magic

qqq14:04:52

is there a way to "git grep through time for 'foo-bar-magic'" ?

qqq14:04:05

I don't want to git grep current node, I want to git grep all commits

sveri14:04:34

@qqq I would say git log is your friend, IIRC it has a lot of options. Also I found tortoisegit to be a very good gui for searching the history although I never searched for a deleted file.

qqq14:04:03

git rev-list --all |args git grep "foo-bar-magic"

this piece of knowledge? will vanish when the next 10k msgs hit slack

sveri14:04:29

luckily SO does not delete questions after it hits a 10k limit 😄

qqq14:04:28

if slack designed SO, questions would vanish after they have been viewed 10k times

not-raspberry14:04:12

@qqq there are archives of this slack on the internet. They probably break the ToS of Slack but whatever.

dominicm14:04:07

@qqq Hmm, I think the better one is git pickaxe: git log -S 'foo-bar-magic'

roberto15:04:51

FYI: slack keeps its history in the paid version. This community slack is not the paid version, so no history.
