any arch linux user here? it seems any screencast software I have tried all have the black screen problem, any hints how to solve this?

akiroz15:01:50

hello~ never done any screencasts though... what DM/DE are you using?

ejelome15:01:34

it's ApricityOS

ejelome15:01:09

it's GNOME afaik

akiroz15:01:58

Wow, I didn't even know Arch itself has flavors/distros(?) now 😮

akiroz15:01:39

you'll probably have to launch your screencast app in the console to check if there's anything dumpped to stderr, stdout or look at the system journal for hints

akiroz15:01:19

Guess you could try the system journal first, open a terminal and run journalctl -f then use your app like normal.

ejelome15:01:24

ok doks, will try this

ejelome15:01:56

still the same, unfortunately

ejelome15:01:26

here's the log, I'll use a thread to not spam 🙂

ejelome15:01:14

looks like no errors but the sound is working, just no screen capture (all black)

akiroz15:01:11

hmmm seem to be working just fine on my GDM/GNOME3 setup

akiroz15:01:23

try doing a full system update?

ejelome15:01:51

it's fully updated, I've did both pacaur -Syu and sudo pacman -Syu

ejelome15:01:38

or this could be an arch issue for screencast software?

akiroz15:01:57

probably not, it's working perfectly on mine

ejelome15:01:26

what screencast you're using?

akiroz15:01:43

simplescreenrecorder, same as your's

akiroz15:01:49

on default settings

ejelome15:01:55

ejelome15:01:08

is it plain arch?

ejelome15:01:29

antergos? manjaro?

ejelome15:01:39

this could be an apricityos then

akiroz15:01:55

just Arch.

akiroz15:01:02

with GNOME3 desktop

ejelome15:01:33

I probably will switch back to regular arch then 😞

akiroz15:01:08

how do I add that snippet? I could share my stdout log

ejelome15:01:38

I just copy it from command line, highlight then ctrl+shift+c

akiroz15:01:54

oh I mean in a slack thread

ejelome15:01:30

ahhh, just highlight a reply then click the comment icon

ejelome15:01:50

if you hover a message, you'll see icons, along with the comment-like icon, that's the thread

ejelome16:01:32

if you want to start your own thread, you need to create a message first, highlight it, then start a thread 😄

ejelome16:01:05

btw, thanks @U1WMJ5CQ2, at least I don't need to change a distro 😄

ejelome16:01:13

^ I guess because the text is too long XD

ejelome16:01:26

I actually split it in half to fit it in the thread

akiroz16:01:46

Ohh 😄

themirrortruth16:01:24

journalctl make it possible for specializing what service you want to watch

themirrortruth16:01:32

-u <service name>

themirrortruth16:01:48

so your log will be less 🙂

akiroz16:01:18

😮 didnt know that, thanks~

akiroz16:01:48

been grepping journalctl all these years...
