@rmoehn No offense, but as an engineer, before I start working on a problem, I make sure there is a problem in the first place. Until now it was only talking. We will have to see what his actual actions are in the next months.

rmoehn09:11:05

I guess you get my intention, so I'll just clarify: I wrote "prevent or reduce negative effects". At least the preventing part has to be based on expectations and you can't tell me that we can't expect anything right now. When you build a bridge, you also don't say you want to solve the right problem and wait until the first girders break.

fellshard09:11:05

"Make sure you are solving the right problem." If we don't all have that pounded into our heads at this point, we haven't made enough software yet. 😛

rmoehn09:11:41

Cf. what I posted almost simultaneously. 🙂

rmoehn09:11:32

Also, T was referring to the negative effects of a presidency. If you include the campaign that just ended, you already have something to reduce the negative effects of.

rmoehn09:11:43

My main point was that we shouldn't despair and complain about bad things that happen, but do something about them. I hope you agree with that?

sveri09:11:41

@rmoehn I am not sure what these negative side effects are for me as an european. Leaving that aside, my experience with election campaignes here in germany means that a lot of people talk about a lot of stuff, a lot of paper is being published, but everything has only the goal to make people vote a certain party. While after the election there are totally different goals, which leads to the effect that almost everything that was said before has no meaning anymore. Thats why I mean I usually wait until I see some actions before I judge, especially in regards to all that election circus.

mping09:11:03

en route already

mping09:11:36

thats whats going to happen I guess 🙂

sveri10:11:13

@mping ok, well now, that sucks

dzannotti13:11:50

@sveri: https://twitter.com/voxdotcom/status/796403235292516353 that pretty much sums up my concerns of yesterday 🙂

sveri13:11:18

@dzannotti Hm, I watched it once now and I have a few problems with it. The first one is that the video promotes the typical narrative that Putin = Bad vs USA = good. I dont think that such a narrative is doing any good if my goal is to promote peace in the world. Also its kind of ridicioulus for me personally to bash Trump for wanting to talk with Putin. While as I think that talking and including people is the only way to solve problems.

dzannotti14:11:56

I would agree with that, but i'm still not morally ok with taking iraqi's oil as spoil of war

sveri14:11:53

I think the only reason why there is a war in iraq is because of the oil. So its not a spoil of war,but instead the reason of the war.

sveri14:11:58

The video seems to imply something different, but either I did not understand it correctly, or it was left in the dark

sveri14:11:50

What I mean is, its totally not ok to make war for oil in any way, but I dont see how Trump is different to the x presidents before

sveri14:11:21

I generally have a different world view most probably. For instance I dont think that the NATO is a defence alliance anymore. It may have been one, before, but right now it seems to be more of a alliance of war.
