Found this today, which is significantly cheaper than an ergodox ez, for anyone interested in something very similar but cost is prohibitive. http://unikeyboard.io/product/diverge/
https://shop.keyboard.io/ Not cheap one, but looks awesome
@vandr0iy that does sound nice 🙂
We should probably shout out to technomancy's atreus whilst we're talking about keyboards. http://atreus.technomancy.us/ Given that most of us here probably use lein regularly
I considered grabbing the http://keyboard.io before I saw the EZ.
I wanted to print and solder my own entire keyboard, and still do. I'm going to try and get a 3D printer later this year, and try print out a stock Ergodox.
I have kinesis advantage and it’s ❤️
I wanted to go for a ergodox before, but I figured that I don’t want a halfway ergo keyboard 😉
however be sure to check this one out https://github.com/adereth/dactyl-keyboard
a place where keyboard meets clojure 🙂
The dactyl is super cool. I wanted one. It's also the thing I'm going to print after the well-documented ergodox
but why ergodox?)
of course it’s a matter of personal opinion, but the curved shape really matters 🙂
and they’ve recently released advantage2 http://www.kinesis-ergo.com/products/
I've found it's less important than the split for me, and getting more use out of my thumb. Plus I needed something I can carry around as I travel a lot / work from home.
I've got really broad shoulders, so I feel uncomfortable on most keyboards as my arms are at quite an angle.
reasonable, I also want a split keyboard to carry around. that’s why I will probably source a dactyl at some point
I was very close to creating my own ergodox to start, and then switching to the Dactyl once the instructions were clearer & I felt a little more brave.
I eventually caved when I realised I'd need even more equipment for the PCBs, and just bought an EZ.
I'm getting more free time in a few months, so I'll be able to take on hobbies like electronics and building keyboards.
@antonpaisov Have you built a keyboard yourself before?
I wish you luck with dactyl! keep posted if you decide to source one 🙂
@dominicm btw I think there’s more reports of dactyl builds in the internet nowdays then it was before
and the case is still the most expensive part of the build 🙂
@antonpaisov even cooler - it looks like my ergodox layout will be compatible with the Dactyl.
it definitely will 🙂
