Hi! Is there anybody who is a native English speaker and want to read an interesting post about the current state of Project Panama (JDK10) and ability to run pure inline x86 assembly from Java? I wrote a blog post, and I want to find somebody who'll help me to improve my using of English in it.
@nxqd: Google is able to render your SPA fine nowadays. unless you're going full "isomorphic" and giving everyone the benefit of server-side generated HTML, I wouldn't bother with it.
@plexus: Don't you have to do things with hash exclamation mark nowadays? What about other search engines?
that hash exclamation mark hack has already been deprecated a couple years now. Google does not recommend using it
@plexus: Cool! Do you have any examples of SPAs that are currently indexed by Google?
@plexus: Good. I didn't know it was deprecated. Only looked at this last year around February.
right, I don't think it's terrible to use it for referring to page-local state, so a URL still corresponds with what's actually on the page
Ah ok. I needed to support IE9, maybe that's why I didn't use it. Really should be getting into this again. Not really doing web stuff atm.
Has anyone had the problem of using a monitor with a too high resolution so the letters become a little too small to read when connecting to a Mac? I've had this with a 25" monitor @ 2560x1440. I'm using a 24" inch monitor at work here @ 1920x1080. This is quite legible for me.
you probably could set the resolution to 1280x720 and it’ll nicely expand (+ you’ll have the 4-pixels-in-1 borders, buttons etc, if you’re into it), but that’ll seriously impact the amount of space
@dajjedzenie: yeah right, so I think I'm stuck to 1920 or 4K for that size of monitor (24-25 inch)
you’d think there’s some way to change the font size
can’t find anything
@dajjedzenie: this is a pain to get right in OSX
@dajjedzenie: I want the font size to be correct if I'm connected to the monitor, but also when disconnected, without manual intervention
I just created a channel called #C1CT4LUBX to discuss these topics, for whoever is interested in them.
(btw there’s also these 1920x1200 DELLs, these you can actually work comfortably on when they’re rotated 90degs)
ok, giving up @borkdude, good luck 😞
@dajjedzenie: yes, I also gave up. Thanks for thinking along. 🙂 I am interested in knowing which monitors work for people that have Macs though.
@dajjedzenie: your input is appreciated
@dajjedzenie: I was surprised that this is such a problem. Maybe Apple wants me to buy one of their monitors 🙂
@borkdude: the Apple monitor have the exact same resolution, right?
oh but they’re 27"
@dajjedzenie: exactly, 27". I have had a 27" @ 2560x1440 at work before. That was just ok enough.
@borkdude: maybe, but that’s kinda cruel
I mean
how do you know whether it’s the right display or not
@dajjedzenie: by buying one and finding out what works. In my case, I was unhappy about my Dell 25".
@dajjedzenie: while it was the most popular monitor on a popular geek website here in The Netherlands
@dajjedzenie: I think it's a good monitor for doing graphical stuff, but not for programming
@dajjedzenie: Maybe those geeks use it for gaming as well
@dajjedzenie: I read in some reviews that more people find the font size a bit too small. Should have read those better, and not just have bought the most popular one at that time 🙂
I put it for sale, it was gone within a few days. But now I'm looking for a good replacement.
yeah I guess, I meant I’ve just realized font size depends on the display as well, kinda shocked 🙂
@dajjedzenie: I've heard of some people clinging on to their old monitors at work, because they have become so used it
@borkdude: I’m still using a cordless optical trackman and praying it won’t stop working 😄
There are also big 4k monitors now that are slightly bent. Maybe 2 cheaper smaller monitors are just as effective. I think for me they are.
I work on 2 Dells (U2412M, I think), both rotated + the 15” macbook display and i love it
@dajjedzenie: I'm working on 2 24" Dell monitors now (at work) as well, I think that'll work for me at home too
If you don’t mind black bars when watching movies or such, seriously consider the _x1200 option, 120x1920 pixels make a difference :slightly_smiling_face:
@dajjedzenie: thanks
a warning, though: its not bright enough to have a dark themed editor if sun's shining straight at it
there's a newer version with usb3.0 i think
yeah, there's u2413, which looks exactly the same but has usb3.0 (+ maybe some other stuff) but its twice as expensive in Poland
and u2415 which is the newest one i think
and may be daisy-chainable
but not sure atm
and it's not as expensive as _13
Monitors are a sore point with me atm. In my current contract the org I'm working for hot desk so you may or may not have a desk let alone a monitor. Loads of money wasted while ppl wander around the building trying to find somewhere to sit.... usually the other side of building from rest of the team. Oh, what fun!
