If anybody here has a higher latitude than ~40 (in either hemisphere), and it's night, see if there are aurorae. It's really quite fantastic. https://twitter.com/bhagany/status/613230512455315456
@bhagany: very nice! I was in NL but too cloudy here (and a bit too low, even). Love to see them some time
@joelkuiper: thanks! Forecasts look like there's a possibility of more activity over the next 2-3 days, so you've still got a shot.
@bhagany: https://www.flickr.com/photos/joelkuiper/sets/72157650954258037 these are the best shots I got back in March (got around 8Kp!)
but it’s really trick in NL 😛
when I was in Iceland I just missed them, was a tad annoyed by that 😛
oh man, I bet that would have been amazing. getting somewhere further north during a solar storm is one of my life goals
same here 😄
I’m not completely sure, they might be airplanes or satellites
it’s hard to tell from the pictures (at least for me), and I didn’t notice them when taking the shots
around 30”
most were also pushed at least a stop in Lightroom, you really don’t see anything in NL (even with a big 8Kp storm)
@bhagany: well could be that the ovation map was in your benefit 😉 I’ll keep an eye out!
@joelkuiper - oh, it most certainly was. I doubt I'll see anything like it anytime soon.
yeah the gulf stream really takes care of that
bhagany: You get auroras like that as far south as 40? I live around ~60, very rarely see them. Only times I've seen something remotely like the image was above the polar circle.
@stian: last night was very, very rare. I've only seen aurorae from here 3 or 4 times before.
oh, yeah, seems like yesterday was pretty major. http://www.aurora-service.eu/aurora-forecast-non-flash/
I won a $500 Pluralsight subscription (a year of "plus"), but I already have access through work. PM me if you're interested and we can work something out.
