This is funny. I have always said "forget the movie" when explaining the name Matrix. Then I woke up yesterday thinking about a red/blue pill theme for the next video and realized I did not know which was which. Now the Matrix read me has some new hype:
That said...
"The red pill and blue pill represent a choice between the willingness to learn a potentially unsettling or life-changing truth by taking the red pill or remaining in the contented experience of ordinary reality with the blue pill." -- WikiPedia
Matrix does constitute a paradigm shift from imperativethink to solving problems with a cascade of formulaic derivations and watch functions, and it did take several months before even its author made that shift and learned to undertake new features by thinking about dataflow instead of imperative logic...shrug.
Come to think of it, Lisp/CLJ alone is "unsettling" for most.
