Looks like rebinding the dynamic var above in a wrap-run hook might work - but abandoning for now to first transfer all tests to fudje after response to issue raised (on the kaocha parent project) made clear that kaocha's support for midje was "experimental at best" and that they would "do no further work on it." (which is of course fair enough!)
