Wanted: one mid- to senior-level Backend Clojure developer to help build https://www.suntribetrading.com/ consumer-facing application for registering and managing Solar Renewable Energy Certificates.[^1] Candidates should be almost as excited by our deps.edn
[^2] contents as they are about working for a compassionate company combatting climate change at the ground level. We’re a startup (three and a half full-time employees and a handful of contractors) embedded within a large solar energy company. And while we think https://what3words.com/work.scarf.chairs is an awesome place to work, there have been grumblings that we are biased so hybrid and remote-only candidates will be welcomed[^3] and subjected to occasional suggestions to relocate (at our expense) or at least visit the mother ship a couple of times a year.
Compensation will vary ($160K - $180K per year) with experience and skills. Benefits are strong and compassionate by US standards, and the company culture is a breath of fresh air. You’ll need a conversation with the team to really appreciate it though.
[^1]: Don’t worry if you don’t know what an SREC is -six months ago I didn’t either. SRECs solve this problem: prove that you have generated solar energy in lieu of consuming (probably CO2-generating) energy from your utility company. The resulting certificates are saleable assets in many states in the US.
[^2]: In lieu of prose about our tech stack, here are excerpts from our deps.edn

[^3]: All candidates must be fluent in written and spoken “software” English and, tz-wise, substantially overlap with America/New_York
.Is this US-only remote, or anywhere/global remote?
Preference to candidates close to US East Coast TZ -otherwise considering all applicants.
I’m reviewing CVs now. I hope to start interviewing a subset of the applicants starting tomorrow. Please be patient with me -there were a lot of extremely qualified applicants. This is unlike any other hiring effort in my 12+ year tenure in this community.
I’ve finished reviewing CVs and am awaiting the green light from HR to start interviewing candidates. The job will be posted internally and I think there is a two or three day waiting period. So hopefully on Monday I’ll start (but not finish) contacting candidates for more serious interviews. I’ll be eager to see code samples and blog/pubs (if any). At some point I’ll ask for references of the finalists. To all who applied: Thanks for your patience!
I’ve finished pre-qualifying applicants. Ten Clojurian applicants were invited to enter into the company’s formal application pipeline (at http://jazz.co) and all have submitted resumes there. For those who I did not ask to enter the pipeline, I am grateful for your consideration and time sharing your qualifications. My early gating focused on GraphQL and Datomic experience, near to Charlottesville, Virginia in time zone or distance (or, ideally, both) and a willingness to commit to full-time work for Sun Tribe. The ten invitees all satisfied most or all of those criteria. There were 35 candidates from Clojurians and probably an equal number who found our (company-mandated) posting on LinkedIn. The best of the LinkedIn candidates was not as qualified for our opening as the most junior developer who applied through this forum. Thank you all for your patience as I processed the unexpectedly high volume of applicants.
That time-literals library 😌 had no idea it existed, always end up rolling some half baked version
Thanks, @U02J388JDEG. I’ve really enjoyed working with @US03ZP2F5 and @UE4SAM0A0 building it.
