We're a :uk:-based startup called The App Nest, and we're hiring! We're a small, well-funded, remote-friendly company (I'm working from home right now) with an office space in London (WeWork, Mark Sq.) and in Milton Keynes for times where face-to-face is easier. We're looking for people with functional programming experience to work on the server-side of things (happy to discuss the pros and cons of using a JVM-based Lisp on a iPhone 😉 ). We're currently making use of Heroku, PostgreSQL, Redis, AWS, and various [ABIS]AAS solutions. Not everything is written in Clojure, but as time progresses I expect more and more of the backend systems to make use of it. Datomic and Ions are being looked at (I've used the former at a couple of startups and with a few clients in the past). We're about to launch the v1 of our app and have a whole lot of feedback from the user testing sessions we've run. It's early days so we have a lot of features to build to make the game more fun, more sticky, and ultimately more successful. So lots still to do, integrations with data providers, game mechanics, anti-cheat systems… You can find all our open positions at https://join.theappnest.co.uk/, and/or ping me directly here with any questions!

Senior Clojure Engineer - AI / NLP - [London - On-site] Salary negotiable I am working with a well-funded startup who are using Clojure and Clojurescript to create tools for financial analysts. They are developing AI-based automation tools to provide the equivalent of a cognitive assistant for every researcher. They are growing the number of developers in London, and are looking for two people with strong functional programming skills, especially Clojure. The ideal candidate will have been using Clojure commercially, although they will consider others with less Clojure experience, if you have other strong functional programming skills, and skills relevant to our wider technology stack and domain of interest. They are looking to hire two Senior Developers to work in their highly collaborative London office. They apply agile principles to their product development, and have adopted Scrum, Continuous Deployment and AWS-based Devops, with a view to delivering user-centric software which is iterated quickly to provide continuously increasing value to their customers. While the core product is a web-based system written in Clojure, you will be exposed to advanced language processing and machine learning techniques, including a state-of-the-art semantic analysis engine, being developed in C#. The ideal candidate, will be deployment focused, with a high degree of curiosity. You must be able to envision a variety of solutions and to clearly articulate them to colleagues, including non-technical stakeholders, and explain the trade-offs involved in choosing between options. Ideally, the successful candidate will have at least five years experience of delivering software in a commercial environment, demonstrable commercial experience of functional programming, familiarity with Scrum, an interest in natural language processing and machine learning If this sounds of interest, please get in touch for more info.

Hi Rob, I’m curious, what does “being exposed to advanced language processing” mean in this context? The headline sounds like you’re looking for people who do ML, while the product description sounds like you’re looking for a full-stack or backend dev.

Hello, In a nutshell, they are looking for strong backend Clojure engineers and all the rest is a bonus. Hope that answers your question?

It does, thank you for clarifying!
