I've got a couple side projects at my startup that I'd really love to see happen, but that I don't have time for myself. I was thinking it might be a good opportunity for an intern/junior dev on a contractor basis. Engagement would look something like: • Projects are pretty short, probably under 100 hrs total work. • I would provide high-level design & detailed code reviews • I would provide mentorship on Clojure coding, architecture, and project planning/execution. • I could pay $20-30/hr, depending • You would get to do greenfield dev with lots of implementation freedom (subject to design constraints) • You would get full credit on any releases and a minority cut of profits if these projects end up having revenue Do you think this would be attractive? Where would be a good place to find such folks?
I definitely think it would be attractive. There are tons of benefits for a developer with limited experience with having taken an opportunity like this. • Experience (duh!) • Feedback, and honing of skills (wether coding, communication, whatever) • Fun, extra fun if you enjoy the greenfield • Builds your pool of references. It’s sooooo much better to have a relevant reference than to have zero. And much better two have two, than one, and so on • Sounds like it makes an excellent entry in the CV If any of my kids would ask for my opinion about an opportunity like this I would tell them to go for it.
#jobs or #remote-jobs pops to mind as good places to find folks. LinkedIn too. At least if you have tuned your network towards Clojure, as I have. 😃 Please connect and I’ll repost: https://www.linkedin.com/in/cospaia/
Yeah throw it into the jobs channel, seems cool.
and include how much time you expect someone to spend on it per day/week/month.
100 hours is 2.5 weeks fulltime... or much longer part time.
yep, I was definitely thinking part time
and timezone info as well please. as that impacts progress as well.
Oh man, I'd love a chance to collab. with you @luke ... but ... a junior dev. would get a leg up in life. Is there some way to rewind my clock by 20 years?
@luke, I'm on sabbatical RN, but I'd like to dust off my Clojure skills, and this seems like a good opportunity. DM me if you'd like to talk details.
@luke Could you please DM me more details and expected timezone?
