Hi everyone, I've been part of this community for some time now, and it's truly inspiring to see so many seasoned developers introducing themselves in the 'introduce-yourself' channel. I've noticed a lot of remote job postings as well. I wanted to ask if there are opportunities for interns or junior developers here? I haven't come across any on the Clojure job boards or within this community yet.

So I learnt it as my second language. Kinda. Self-taught PHP, then hit a wall and went through about 50 languages of a day apiece before finding clojure and loving it. I recognise that I'm not exactly the norm though 😅

Not enough, sadly. And probably even fewer in the current market climate. Companies often choose Clojure because you can get a lot done with a small team of experienced people, and tech companies have always been opportunistic, they start creating positions for Juniors when it starts getting harder to find seniors. My suggestion would be to advertise adjacent skills that they might be interested in. Every team has their weaknesses that they might want to hire for. It's not unusual for the youngest person on the team to have the best knowledge of web standards, frontend, and UI design. Or maybe you're good with Unix and networking and cloud management and that gives you an edge.

Heh, and also I've seen plenty of developers who think that only backend programming is serious/real/demanding, so front end is only for juniors. And their incapability is simply a choice, not a matter of their skills, of course. What I'm saying is that there are junior positions for front end dev even if the company could still find seniors, they just don't want to pay senior wages for that. Of course, it could be taken as a red flag… Or should. In my experience the state management of UIs are easly left as a horrible mess when done by people who don't know what they are doing (whether true juniors or those backend people who don't care).

I'd love to some day offer that kind of opportunities. But at the same time, I have chosen Clojure because it helps small experienced teams build and solve things quickly, which also requires experience. Quite the opposite of the mindset that people with low skill can be brought on and quantity will win the day. At the same time, I haven't heard of any educational institute, that would include Clojure in curriculum. So I don't know where junior clojure developers would come from; everyone I know has learned it as Nth language (I'd spitball that everyone has known / worked with at least four other languages before).
