Once again, folks, be cautious about whom you're sharing your personal info with. I suggest not using your full legal name outright, and provide it only at the last stage. Do not share your SSN, DOB, or your complete house address until the time when the hiring company needs to send you an official offer. I am seeing signs of malicious misuse of my information (even with the limited data I share). The latest example - I got a legitimate verification code email from http://amazon.jobs, even though I have never applied for work there. In the past few weeks, I received a few emails with the subject "Incomplete employment form" for a job at a Fortune 500 company, that leads to a completely different domain, where apparently I have a profile registered with my email. I tried to use the "forgot my password" option, but still couldn't get access to that profile. Beware of recruiters who call you unannounced. Any decent recruiter never calls you without prior scheduling. Bad ones are now spoofing caller IDs to be of the same area code as you. With all the chaos and sheer volume of people trying to get hired, I suppose it's expected to see increased activity from malicious actors. Stay vigilant, it's okay to be a bit paranoid. Do basic research before talking to anyone. There are tons of bogus "recruiter" profiles on LinkedIn.

Even when they tell you things like: "I don't need the year, just give me the date and month of your birth date, we need it to create a profile ID", it's not so difficult to imagine someone calling your bank or a store where you have a credit line, asking them to "reset the password", providing your full legal name, your address and last four digits of your social security number and then "guessing" the year, or lying to the agent that they have "mistyped" it and the info in their database is wrong. Any kind of missing information can be "extrapolated" and blanks can be filled. You never know when your personal information gets compromised, don't share it willingly just because you're desperate right now - years later you might be trying to figure out how someone stole your identity or accessed your accounts.
