Apropos of the earlier conversation about scam job listings. These guys are a great example. They keep sending me emails like this which are convincing enough to get past my spam filter. Notice the “Mail From:” domain is different from the one in the body of the email. Also, http://oceantechnologiesinc.com is a dead website. You’d think they would put a little more effort into this but the fact that they don’t tells me they don’t have to. They’re successfully enough being lazy.
Usually when I see scams, I use whois to look up the registrant or dig to find out who provides their nameservers are, and report them for abuse.
I mean “Big Pond” could be an ocean, I guess.
Also, if they really so interested in me, why did they send “To: Undisclosed recipients” and not me directly? Anyway, just a few things to look out for in the job hunt.
I have also seen an invitation for a conference recently. A genetics conference I have never heard about with the email having words like "with your extensive and valuable experience". I do have some papers on genetics, but so do many students. :D It's not exactly a good criterion, so I imagine it's just an email broadcast to anyone with even slightly relevant experience. And of course, participating requires paying in advance.
