<...> But other companies are using <...>I want to cry from this phrase...
Since we were discussing Pitch yesterday, I just wanted to share my perspective as one of the people who were laid off. I think the way this was handled was exemplary. The decision was communicated to us employees clearly, laying out what had been decided and why, and what people who were being laid off would be getting in terms of severance. To the best of my knowledge, every employee got the same deal (except in countries where they were entitled to more), whether they had been with the company for 7 years or 7 days. Folks in countries that have no worker protection (the US, etc) got the package. Folks who were still in their probational period got the package. The founders have been actively working their networks to find new opportunities for those of us who were let go. As someone who has now been laid off three times (twice in the last 18 months), I can tell you that whilst there’s no good way to do layoffs, there are many bad ways, and this was not one of them. I imagine the vast majority of the folks who are leaving are doing so with good will and genuine wishes for Pitch to succeed. I’m certainly one of those.
I have huge respect for this and also for their decision to carry on (instead of giving up) with a more sustainable strategy.
That’s great news, given the situation. I’m sorry you were laid off and I hope you’re able to find work quickly once you start looking.
