Hello there folks, I am a university student living in Canada who likes using Clojure and I am seeking advice on how to develop my professional path in organizations that use Clojure. What companies would you recommend and who would you suggest contacting? Thank you in advance for all your help.
If you ever find junior dev positions open, ask for internship opportunities. In the meantime, try to sit down and complete projects and contribute to open source, so that you can demonstrate you know how to use Clojure (and more importantly, see how you use Clojure). Do not be afraid to apply to as many jobs as possible either.
Hi Eitan, glad to hear that you are interested in Clojure jobs. I've been working with Clojure for 10+ years and its been a fantastic programming language to work with. Programming language experience is transferable and mutually beneficial (e.g. knowing some JavaScript will make you a better ClojureScript developer, knowing some Java will make you a better Clojure developer etc) - so do practice/explore a range if you have time. For Clojure its possible to develop significant Clojure expertise from just hobby coding - these expertise can be valuable when you go into interview. (ie many companies don't care whether your coding experience is personal or professional as long as you're good it may not matter). For finding a role, you will need to persue and hunt for these roles and also have some patience. Here are some relevant posts I've made on this subject that might help: {https://clojurians.slack.com/archives/C0KL616MN/p1665064299775179?thread_ts=1664401060.217419&cid=C0KL616MN] [https://clojurians.slack.com/archives/C0KL616MN/p1664441852179709?thread_ts=1664401060.217419&cid=C0KL616MN]
