My team has just been let go by my firm. I drifted into tech as a product manager from the business side (finance) so I'm not really sure how to go about looking for a new tech role. All the recruiters I know specialize in finance jobs. Any suggestions on where to best start searching? I'm based in London but fine working remotely or moving. Any help much appreciated!
@U0105JJK1L3 sorry to to hear about that. Hopefully you find an interesting new opportunity soon. Here a few general thoughts/suggestions for the new job search. • Do reflect what kind of role/company you want to be in. Roles in the tech world can be very diverse (lots of different industries, company sizes, levels of seniority, levels of client interaction etc), • Having prestigious company names on your CV isn't necessarily that important in tech; so there's lots of interesting (smaller) companies that you can apply to that will usually pay equivalently well to larger established ones. Using a recruiter Best way to get on a recruiter's radar is by applying to jobs that they are advertising on job boards/paid advertisements. They will then contact you about other roles too. No need to work exclusively with one recruiter or even meet them for coffee if you don't have time. Recruiters will also get in touch with you if your linkedin profile has the right buzz words. Recruiters aren't essential though for many companies who are happy to receive direct applications. Direct applications to companies Check out job boards, indeed, linkedjobs, slack postings etc. You can also find lists of companies (e.g. FTSE100, 'best jobs for grads', 'hot startups 2022' etc) then check their websites. You can try contacting any company that is actively recruiting in tech even if they don't list an open role for exactly what you do (e.g. product management). Note it can takes weeks to get a response back so send out a fair number in parallel.
