Hi everyone, I’m wondering about what the job market is like in Boston area. I’ve never worked in clojure professionally nor have I lived in Boston, but both idea seems brilliant to me. It’d be fantastic if anyone could share some insights. Thanks!

Looking on the Brave Clojure jobs board, there's only one Boston job listed

Looks like Indeed has two dozen openings in the Boston area that seem to mention Clojure.

@dawranliou Where do you live right now and what attracts you to Boston?

Daw-Ran Liou03:01:46

Thanks for the searching! I’m currently based in SF Bay Area, California. Mostly it’s the cultural aspect that attracts me. I also want to live in someplace very different from here :)

OK, so you're local to me right now. Hmm, yes, Boston is certainly pretty different to here, by all accounts. Not sure I'd want to deal with the weather out there tho'!

Boston seems to have a thriving tech community. Not sure how much Clojure it's got, compared to the Bay Area (I'd assume we have a lot more Clojure here).

Hahaha yeah the weather seems to be the thing everybody warns me the first.

I’m also seeking remote position if possible, though I fear the lack of experience might not be desirable for remote position

Daw-Ran Liou03:01:36

But I really wish to work in Clojure as my primary language

Hope it’ll work

Yeah, if you're not already doing Clojure professionally, it is going to be hard to find a company who'll hire you as a remote Clojure developer -- it's hard enough getting any position for tech X if you don't already do X 🙂 Your best bet is to find a company that does at least some Clojure as well as whatever your current primary tech is -- and go in as a <insert your current tech here> and express interest in moving to the Clojure team 🙂

I became a Clojure developer by introducing Clojure to a company that hired me for other tech.

Really appreciate for the advice. I’ll focus more on the non-remote job in the Boston area then. 🙂
