alright, 9pm, alone in the company, time to get some work done!

@nkraft: I think I saw a tweet where someone said that 2 people are collaborating and all the other people are wearing headphones 😉

thomas08:04:38

I guess is collaboration is what you are after open plan is better.

thomas08:04:27

but whether that is the most important attribute that contributes to code quality remains to be seen I think

dottedmag08:04:35

Our profession, like many others, consist of a mix of activities.

dottedmag08:04:53

Some require collaboration, some require deep solitary or group concentration.

dottedmag08:04:07

Separate offices with little shared space stifle collaboration.

dottedmag08:04:31

Open plan was a reaction to this, pushed too far.

thomas08:04:40

true… so you want to cater for both… which the bean counters won’t like probably

dottedmag08:04:52

Beancounters don't run the companies. Or at least they should not.

dottedmag08:04:19

One way to properly run a software company is to have management with an experience in software engineering.

dottedmag08:04:36

(The fact it's not a standard practice makes my hair rise: think how idiotic "a way to properly run an aerospace company is to have management with an experience in aerospace design" would sound?)

dottedmag08:04:37

CEO of the company I work for worked as a software engineer for some time and then switched to running business, and it shows.

dottedmag08:04:55

(He's also an ex-fighter jet pilot, but that's a different story :)

thomas09:04:44

working for a public traded (ie. Wall Street) company bean counters have a lot of influence.
