@borkdude: Remote requires more trust, so I suppose remote positions are filled not via ads, but via recruiting through friends-of-friends-networks.

> remote is the future... but not yet the now?

tjg11:04:40

@borkdude @dottedmag: I heard that viewpoint just this week by a sympathetic manager at a really large company with a Clojure team... even regarding "semi-remote," where people come in for meetings, but otherwise work when/where they want.

tjg11:04:08

Maybe working remote should be seen as a movement, like the early agile? Probably means it should generate a literature exploring techniques. (And should maybe have something within it to resist what happened with Agile?)

borkdude11:04:22

I would consider a remote full Clojure job as my next move, but I'm afraid it will socially not satisfy me

You might be interested in http://officecrashe.rs/ . (Just heard about it myself.)

I'm based in The Netherlands. We have co-working spaces here, but the one I visited was crowded with 'creative' marketing people

borkdude12:04:01

(where 'creative' means loud)

borkdude12:04:50

I like working in coffee bars though, just with headphones on

borkdude12:04:05

In my previous job I did 50% remote and 50% office time, I think that's a good balance

tjg12:04:33

Yeah, I like approaching it as (among other things) a mental health issue. https://youtu.be/0H6BZxDBeYo?t=31m44s

tjg12:04:33

Ideally means discovering a mix of things (remote being just one tactic) that lead to good outcomes. Requires a bit of experimentation by each person in the team.

i am lucky because there is a 'silent room' in my cowork where you are not allowed to speak loudly and make phone calls

jan.zy18:04:59

and it's occupied by programmers

@borkdude I have proposed the 50/50 deal a few times to companies in London (saving me the 2h+ commute and loads of $$$ each time) but they are not keen on it 😞

hiredman19:04:31

apparently companies would much rather pay me a completely bonkers hourly rate as an off site contractor than a much more reasonable salary as a remote full time employee

hiredman19:04:14

(I am obviously not fit for management, because if I was, that would some how make sense to me)
