introduce-yourself 2026-01-14

Hi folks glad to stop in, I really hope to get to know the community you all sound pretty rad so far I career changed to tech (enterprise software) in 2024. My employer’s legacy product is in Smalltalk! But my focus has been frontend. I started diving into programming language history, discovered Lisp (picked up the Little Schemer) and felt a whole new world open. Found myself on the architecture team for a new platform, and realised Datomic might be perfect. Lobbying hard right now (Java helps the pitch). It would be extremely funny if my impact was converting the companies main architecture from Smalltalk -> Lisp/Clojure. My personal goal is to become competent as a programmer generally, particularly with Clojure and "pragmatic" FP. I've definitely started to clojure-all-the-things

Update: Datomic is a go… πŸ’ͺ

Also worth looking at XTDB as a bi-temporal database for new use cases.

I too went via Smalltalk (two different platforms!) into Clojure/Datomic. With a bunch of via's. Welcome!
