Hello everybody. Not a professional coder but have been programming as a hobby and for automating various work tasks since the early 1980s. Started off as a kid with BASICs on Commodore PET / BBC Micro / ZX Spectrum, then went on to ARexx on the Amiga, followed by Perl in the 1990s. I began using R in 2009 (still my "main" language), and have recently being doing a bit of Python. However, I always wanted to learn a Lisp, and Clojure library support seems to be more practical for my purposes (e.g. reading PDF files) than Common Lisp. I realise that startup times mean that Clojure isn't an ideal scripting language, but it's not a big issue for my tasks. More worried about tooling, which is frankly complicated, but overall looking forward to getting to grips with this fascinating language. Cheers, Dan
Fast startup times for scripting was exactly why Babashka was invented: https://github.com/babashka/babashka
Many thanks, I will check it out - clojurians proving itself to be a useful resource right from the word go!
> More worried about tooling, which is frankly complicated Hi @U02CVCL55N0! We have started a channel for trying to improve the getting started story. #improve-getting-started. You are super welcome to join there and share about the worries, and also tell us about bumps in the road that you experience.
