hoplon 2025-10-03

I'm using hoplon in a side project after a long while. I fells good to be productive so quickly. Claude know how to write decent hoplon, most of the code just works. Need to document that the order of attributes matter, took me a while to understand what was going on when a dynamic :css was not working initially because a later :style was overwriting it.

I'm amazed that an LLM can write valid Hoplon!

Me too, that’s awesome.

Also, what up? πŸ‘‹ hoplon

That's amazing. I've used it to create some Reagent stuff too in a AI-generated implementation of reagent that's < 10kb of JS in squint. But hoplon examples are maybe not that widespread as reagent, so that's even more impressive

Only the latest messages were using Sonnet 4.5 (and I didn't check if those work yet). It's not one shot but it generates lots of useful code that mostly work.

is there an example of a minimal hoplon app that uses scittle?

Uses scittle or runs on it? The playground used to be a scittle app but I noticed that it is broken, I need to check what happend.

like make a hoplon app with just a single htmll file with <script> tag containing the hoplon code

without any build step, basically

This is what the playground did when it was working.

also πŸ‘‹ how's the life, been a minute or two

Yeah. Still writing clojure to pay the bills, have two amazing sons. Life is pretty good. And you?

I did not lock the versions of scripts loaded on playground facepalm

wow, congratulations! great to hear it!

oh cool, that's what i was looking for!

this isn't scittle though, just another demo project that uses SCI but @mynomoto has pushed scittle-hoplon files to npm that you can use

ah i see, thanks

sweet! thanks!

Scittle-kitchen has a nice configurator that has hoplon option https://timothypratley.github.io/scittle-kitchen/

the only not so nice thing about this is that the plugins aren't versioned which could lead to the same issue that @mynomoto had to fix?

If everything is versioned and build/released together then it should be fine.

@mynomoto what was the bug in your case?

yes, but due to caching, one file can lag behind the other one theoretically, so I would advise to always append a version to your cdn asset

I was trying to mix a scittle build that you did with the hoplon build I did, or wanted to upgrade one of them and end pointing to different builds. Yeah, cache can be a problem.

> It says it always builds against latest. Does that help? It should be mostly fine but caching could break it.

in theory yes

@timothypratley one piece of feedback: when you select cljs-dev-tools shouldn't all plugins flip to their .dev counterparts?
