So I'm doing https://www.evalapply.org/posts/emerging-from-dotemacs-bankruptcy/... Warnings, advice, and prayers welcome :)
Really curious about your motivation for applying to Recurse - and how you'll find the experience! Is it back to physical now?
I went through Emacs bankruptcy proceedings a few years ago (ejecting from Spacemacs). I'm here to tell you my config came out stronger at the end and it was generally fun
https://github.com/pesterhazy/emacs.d/blob/master/init.el if you're curious
Also curious about your RC experiences. What's your project, other than a new init.el?
This is my second time at RC. Will recommend 11/10! It works just like it says on the tin (and in my experience, better that it says on the tin!). > Is it back to physical now? RC has been remote-only since the pandemic. This is exactly how it works: https://www.recurse.com/virtual-rc They are currently, tentatively, experimenting to see if there is a good way to do remote-first, with optional physical space access. That's going down this way: https://www.recurse.com/blog/189-a-new-kind-of-retreat > Also curious about your RC experiences. What's your project, other than a new init.el? This time I'm making my retreat all about heads-down coding as much as I can (half finished books, "forever projects" like my site maker, personal tools like my dotemacs etc. -- anything goes). Last time I was in NYC, and it was highly social because I wanted to soak in as much culture, shared experiences, collegial exchange as I could. Everyone's experience tends to be pretty unique / individual, because it is a self-directed retreat, and people come with their own individual circumstances. I think it is important to view time at RC as a beginning of a process, rather than a finite package. There is a reason the motto is to "never graduate"! This page provides a sample of the wide range of personal experiences: https://www.recurse.com/who If anything, your mileage will vary.
