@jonahbenton are you sure you didn't try to save while the cursor was in the minubuffer?

That happens to me sometimes, and then emacs asks which filename to use for the minubuffer

@malabarba: ty, i have noticed that too. my feeling is that it also happens when in the buffer, but I will make sure to confirm next time it happens.
