Following on the heels of Pro! We've got a new Datomic Cloud and Datomic local release! I'll have individual forum announcements for everything I released in case there are discussions to be had, but here is the https://docs.datomic.com/cloud/releases.html#current and here is a list of the forum announcements: • https://forum.datomic.com/t/datomic-cloud-1102-9309/2347https://forum.datomic.com/t/datomic-local-1-0-276-now-available/2350https://forum.datomic.com/t/new-client-cloud-1-0-124-datomic-cloud/2348https://forum.datomic.com/t/ion-1-0-68-and-ion-dev-1-0-316-datomic-cloud/2349https://forum.datomic.com/t/ion-1-0-68-and-ion-dev-1-0-316-datomic-cloud/2349

Why is ions so painful to use? Tried using Datomic in a personal project and could never get a successful deploy. Gave up and used Datahike on Postgres, much easier to get up and running. Provisioning on AWS with templates was treacherous.

Well.. I told the team to make an extremely painful-to-use technology. They delivered! 😉 Jokes aside, I would be interested in hearing what in particular was painful about your experience so we can improve the use of ions. If you can spare the time to give us an experience report... hit me up at <mailto:[email protected]|[email protected]> or <mailto:[email protected]|[email protected]>.

I would be curious if others had similar experience before asking the team to try to optimize or change.

silian23:12:37

It was some time ago and I moved on, but I am more curious if mine was a common enough sentiment that Cognitect maybe addressed or simplified the starter projects. (I might re-try but it sounds like my own failures may not be so common.)

I have spun up two DC projects with Ions in the past year. My experience was generally painless, but I was working in virgin AWS accounts and had some experience working with ions before. Happy to discuss my experience in more detail, @U02U1T66REZ, if that would be useful.

@U1QJACBUM, thanks to you and the rest of the DC team for this update -I particularly appreciate the updates to the CF template. I’m embarking on a journey with the AWS CDK and having a “healthy” template for DC is a nice place to start from.

Also, this release was nicely staged and documented -thanks for that icing on the cake.

I appreciate the offer. Before I ask you to elaborate, I will try to get around to giving it another shot. (`:code-deploy-status` would succeed but :deploy-status never did so think it had something to do with CloudFormation templates or my AWS setup.)

Me and my colleague also had a lot of experience with AWS and I haven't found it particularly difficult to get Datomic Cloud going. If anything, it got simpler over the years. There is no more complexity around the AWS Marketplace. No need for a bastion server either. Any difficulty we have is not really different we had with other solutions. Architecting, deploying and operating distributed systems is not a cakewalk unfortunately 🙂
