Is the best way to learn datascript (as someone with zero familiar with datalog) to learn datomic first (with its onerous schema requirements—onerous relative to datascript) and then start datascripting?

@fasiha: For learning, I don't think it makes much of a difference which you start with. If your goal is to use datascript, I'd start there.
