what is the difference between merge and mix?

@bcbradley It appears that merge is somewhat like "blend these together, never to be separated again"; mix is more like "bundle these, and optionally add/remove channels to the 'bundle' if you wish"

mix appears to be more full-featured also -- you can mute, solo, etc.
