Perhaps Nubank can help here, since I've heard they more than 1000 channels in their internal Slack? ;)

borkdude13:10:56

Is this something Cognitect / Nubank could help negotiate?

borkdude13:10:33

> Could you have the plan administrator reach out to me at <mailto:[email protected]|[email protected]> and we can go from there”

Alex Miller (Clojure team)13:10:40

we are not the plan administrator?

Alex Miller (Clojure team)13:10:17

nobody from cognitect or nubank has any relationship with the creation or administration of this slack

borkdude13:10:46

would it be in the interest of nubank or cognitect if this slack had full features?

borkdude13:10:19

I'm not saying you should do anything, just trying to see if there's possibilities. Perhaps some other company can do this

Alex Miller (Clojure team)13:10:39

I don't feel like I need any more features personally

Alex Miller (Clojure team)13:10:49

what features are we missing that people want?

borkdude13:10:59

I think history is the big one

Alex Miller (Clojure team)13:10:04

I know search but that's somewhat mitigated by zulip etc

borkdude13:10:10

and yes, we have workarounds, but meh

Alex Miller (Clojure team)13:10:04

I'd rather those funds go to (for example) paying oss clojure devs

Alex Miller (Clojure team)13:10:15

or hiring more people on the clojure team

Alex Miller (Clojure team)13:10:34

getting better search here is like 50 spots down the list

borkdude13:10:35

ok, totally fair. to clarify: I was just bouncing ideas, let's see if someone else has interest then.

Alex Miller (Clojure team)13:10:42

seems like someone from admin here could do what it says above and contact the email above and actually get more information

borkdude13:10:56

that seems like a logical next step indeed

eggsyntax13:10:45

Yep, definitely on our radar, no one's had time to act on it quite yet but I think we certainly will.

borkdude14:10:52

Btw I wasn't suggesting anyone should pay, but if there's a company which already has a big Slack bill, and is somewhat connected to the Clojure community, perhaps this would help negotiate a free but full plan for this Slack.

Like @cfleming was suggesting with the Jetbrains thing

Alex Miller (Clojure team)14:10:42

if that becomes helpful, let me know

although I could not be farther from knowing the right person to talk to at Nubank about that :)

pez14:10:57

Maybe you can just suggest you are kin? 😃

pez14:10:34

I think it would be totally awesome without the 10K messages cliff. Until today it has all seemed like “forget it”, but there actually seems there is a sliver of a chance they can let us have access to all messages.

dpsutton14:10:08

There’s no need for anyone else to help at this point. It sounds like slack is helpful to larger open source communities so we will see what they are willing to offer

I’m in Florence on vacation but will email tonight if @eggsyntax has not already. We just have been on vacation at the moment

jjttjj21:10:11

I'd guess the entire history of this slack has more clojure information vs all other clojure sources combined. Being able to access the full slack feature set on it would be amazing if it could be accomplished without someone footing the bill. I'd probably spend countless hours searching random terms vaguely related to stuff I'm stuck on. The current logs are not the best for this usage unfortunately

The Zulip archives of this Slack are pretty good for searching but, yes, having the full search natively in this Slack would be better.

I’ve felt bad re-asking questions that I’m positive have been asked before. (Wasn’t aware of Zulip.) Native search would probably do at least a little to head that off and reduce the workload of volunteers answering questions.

West22:10:26

Wasn’t aware of Zulip before. So glad it’s here! I was looking for threads about databases and logging frameworks.
