I bought a clojurex ticket but haven't received any email to confirm the event has been cancelled by either the administrators or skills matter. As such it's possible that a number of attendees will show up on the day expecting a conference. We should perhaps have a presence there or at least put up a couple of flyers pointing them to the correct venue?

I believe once we've locked down a new venue (today/tomorrow), we'll announce it more formally

@salaun.clement have any more speakers confirmed their availability ? Thanks

Clément12:11:29

@dotemacs Sheet up to date, still no news from some!

Bugged the administrator, got an update just now: >Thank you for your email. > >Please note no events are scheduled to be held this week commencing 11 November 2019 and the Administrators are unable to confirm whether any other future events scheduled with the Company will be taking place. > >Whilst there is no commitment from the Administrators to hold any future events, a potential purchaser of the business and assets may wish to honour these bookings. (Emphasis hers)

Matthew Gilliard13:11:53

That's sad - they can't really say anything else at this point though, I guess.

Jcaw13:11:33

I assume they want to keep every asset they can for a sale

Jcaw13:11:54

They don't seem to realize ~5 speakers have cancelled

Matthew Gilliard13:11:37

At the moment I don't think it matters to them. ReSolve won't be running the conference either way.

Matthew Gilliard13:11:10

Have we come to any decision about how much tickets for ClojureY would cost? It would be amazing if we could make it free for attendees, but not sure if that's practical given the costs.

Matthew Gilliard14:11:32

People (like jiriknesl above) are already badly out of pocket over this.

Jcaw14:11:15

The hope is for it to be free, which looks likely. A few sponsors have offered to contribute.

reborg14:11:55

The event should be free, all relevant costs are covered

I am a little worried about the implications to speakers. Does cancelling at this point void a contract? Are ReSolve/the buyer going to pursue?

Any speaker can pull out of the conference at any time without legal obligation as they only had an agreement in writing with a company that no longer exists. Even if SkillsMatter existed, a speaker can pull out at any time. They are just unlikely to be asked to speak again if it's without good reason. A company going I to administration is a fair reason to withdraw. If money for travel had already been paid by SkillsMatter, there is a very small chance the administrators would try to reclaim that. My understanding though is that none of the speakers that asked for support for travel actually received any money from SkillsMatter.

dharrigan14:11:08

I would not put my hopes up for this, as an unsecured creditor, you won't get any money back in the long term (if at all)

jiriknesl14:11:05

Is that even legal to continue selling tickets when they know there’ll be no conference?

Clément14:11:34

@jack.crawley92 I personally do not have signed any contact with skillsmatter. Just confirmed my presence by email and sent an invoice for T&L (which is unlikely to be paid anyway)
