alexmiller: I'd still rather we didn't have a clash on the dates. If it is unavoidable this time then that is OK. clojurex dates tend to get announced at the end of the conf, so we generally know our date 1yr in advance.

Alex Miller (Clojure team)12:06:14

Yeah it's definitely not our preference

Alex Miller (Clojure team)12:06:35

Between the late EuroClojure and the US holidays and when venues had availability we got into a narrow spot this year

otfrom13:06:24

alexmiller: what date do you usually aim at for the conj?

otfrom13:06:38

clojurex is usually 1st or 2nd week of Dec

Alex Miller (Clojure team)13:06:01

Normally we try for right before Thanksgiving but this year we couldn't get any good venue dates then

otfrom13:06:06

T-day on 24 Nov?

Alex Miller (Clojure team)13:06:18

We couldn't go earlier this year because of Euro

otfrom13:06:44

that makes sense

otfrom13:06:18

are you thinking about stabl-ish dates for Euroclojure in the future? I understand that with just taking it over that it might still be a bit unstable

Alex Miller (Clojure team)13:06:00

We'd prefer to have before summer, just had a really hard time finding a good option this year

otfrom13:06:14

will the conj be in NC again?

Alex Miller (Clojure team)13:06:32

Hasn't been there for years

otfrom13:06:09

East coast still?

Alex Miller (Clojure team)13:06:30

Haven't announced yet ;)

Alex Miller (Clojure team)13:06:15

We like to wait till we have a contract

otfrom13:06:20

I'm wondering if we can take advantage of the date clash. Not sure if we'd be able to get someone in London who you would like to have on a screen at the conj & possibly vice versa given only a 5hr time diff

otfrom13:06:59

the new skills matter location makes a lot of those things simpler for us until we start going north of 300 attendees

Alex Miller (Clojure team)13:06:05

We should totally think about that

otfrom13:06:30

lemons -> lemonade

otfrom13:06:14

yup 😄

otfrom13:06:41

btw, I don't work for skills matter, but they are so amazing at hosting so many groups in London that I try to do what I can to help them

otfrom13:06:10

the conferences are a bit like a bake sale

Alex Miller (Clojure team)13:06:13

They do seem to be everywhere

otfrom13:06:22

but we don't eat the speakers. (usually)

otfrom13:06:48

Wendy is very active. It can sometimes be hard road, but they seem to be doing OK atm

otfrom13:06:17

Wendy == CEO of Skills Matter

agile_geek13:06:33

I like the sound of a Trans Atlantic conference with speakers on screen at the alternate location...kind of Clojure Live Aid!

Alex Miller (Clojure team)14:06:22

I think that would be a lot of fun

agile_geek18:06:53

I suspect I'm asking for the technical gremlins to strike but a cross conference panel would be cool. I think it might be a bit too difficult to mediate though.
