Hi @neumann after listening to your talk about live streaming and what happened to Netflix during the Tyson and Jake Paul’s fight, you have any thoughts?

@koloyyee, I didn't watch it myself, but I heard there was a lot of buffering. Streaming to a massive audience is hard. Even though content distribution networks try to put servers as close to the customers as possible, some customers can still end up traversing a network route that gets saturated. Sometimes it's the opposite and the route feeding a CDN server gets saturated. It's really different than YouTube where people are watching all sorts of different things at once. For live streams, the traffic can get focused down pretty hard on specific endpoints. Live event streaming at Internet scale is hard!

thanks! over 100 million for sure is going to be hard, I an amateur so bear with me, is it more related to infrastructure rather than let’s say Java vs Go or “should have used Rust” scenario?

I don't have any inside information, but based on the symptoms, I'm pretty sure it's related to infrastructure.
