Tip for folks visiting from abroad, Germany is still more attached to cash than most places, cards are often accepted but certainly not always, and you're best off carrying some cash just in case. • Supermarkets and big chains all accept cards • Restaurants generally do but it's worth checking • Bars generally don't • Smaller stores may not accept cards or only accept German "EC" cards • Third wave coffee shops may only accept card Mastercard/visa/maestro are all widely accepted, American express is virtually unknown.
