Yes, that's quite different from how it works here! The local council recently replaced the pavement in my street after my elderly neighbours complained (repeatedly) about the broken and uneven flagstones. One of the neighbours, who has lived here since these houses were built, tells me that the pavement they replaced was the original laid 73 years ago.
Morning!
The concern du jour here, as in much of the UK, is the worsening pothole situation on the roads. Our road looks like a particularly muscular family of moles has had a field day on it. Although the neighbour chat briefly entertained the idea of us clubbing together to finance filling the holes, we quickly realised that we'd be mainly benefitting the numerous cars that used our road as a daily rat run. I say "used" because the solution was to make the road one way (the wrong way for the rat run) which happened 6 months ago. Less cars, less damage!
Yes, pot holes are a problem all over the country, some of the roads around here are in a dire state. I failed to dodge one when I was cycling downhill the other day and hit it hard enough for my water bottle to bounce out of the cage! Luckily it rolled downhill so I didn't have to retrace my steps cycle back up the hill to retrieve it.
6 years ago our street was repaved and at the same time raised as well as this was a swamp.

Oh dear. The hazards of living below sea level..!? 🇳🇱
yes.... stuff just sinks here... we are about 4 meter below I think. And the deepest point of 🇳🇱 is a few miles west of here. Nothing spectecular though. just a field with some grass.
Mornin'!
