Good Morning!

Mornin'... how's the government doing over there today? 🙂

2026-05-14T13:29:23.177239Z

Streeting has gone but Stramer is still hanging on.

I saw a meme recently (don't remember where or I'd share) but the catchphrase was "You will replace him with someone better, right?" IMHO Streeting would be much, much worse.

How many resignations have there been so far? I saw comments comparing it to the collapse of several Tory governments... Heh, everyone I've seen comment on it seems pleased that Streeting is gone...

Yeah, he is in the pocket of companies that want to privatise the NHS.

I haven't been keeping track of all the resignations, I think this was the most senior one.

The thing I never understood about Starmer is why he spent the last year or more repeating Reform tropes. He's essentially been doing their campaigning work for them. But nobody who wants that agenda will vote for a fascist impersonator when they can vote for an actual fascist, so all he's done is push his left-of-centre voters to the Greens.

(Not that I'm unhappy to see the Green Party doing well)

seancorfield 2026-05-14T13:37:01.919389Z

Yeah... I was pleased Labour came back to power but disappointed with almost everything else since 🙂 I used to be a card-carrying party member, but I think I would vote differently now. I was always LibDem locally, Labour nationally, and Green for Europe.

2026-05-14T13:38:38.360959Z

I have been a LibDem member for about a decade now, but I'm not that factional, I'd be happy with the Greens but pragmatically I'd vote for whoever was most likely to keep Reform out.

On the policy front, I was disappointed that Labour did not introduce a proportional voting system for general elections, the party membership is in favour of this but not the leadership. Instead they have policies on digital id and age-gating the Internet that I strongly disagree with.

On the subject of keeping children safe online, I'd much rather the Government does something about companies using algorithms that promote harmful content - platforms that design for engagement seem to promote hate and anger. Not only is this harmful to children, but adults then fall into these awful misogynistic cults of incels and the like.

(Sorry, I'm drifting off topic...)

seancorfield 2026-05-14T13:56:40.155099Z

Heh, I'm right there with you... (sorry, went to make a coffee)...

2026-05-14T13:59:23.144049Z

No problem. Today is my day off so I'm working on some personal projects. Just cleaning up after yarr (an RSS reader I replaced with miniflux). But what I really wanted to do was evaluate Laminar CI, it's script-based (rather than YAML) and I wanted to see what it might look like using Babashka for the scripting.
