Morn'! My new phone and watch turn up today. First devices that need a USB-C charger (which I don't have). I've had a bunch of devices that have a USB-C socket but they all had USB-A to USB-C cables. The new watch charger is USB-C only. Overnight delivery from Amazon Prime FTW there I guess 😞
I'm happy that a standard has been agreed upon. Less waste.
I see now that Apple aren't even shipping chargers with their latest devices.
(I guess, in the anticipation that everyone has a usb-c charger somewhere)
Samsung don't include a charger either. I assumed that I had plenty of suitable charging devices already and would just plug the phone into one of them... wrong!
No charger with the watch. No charger with the phone. Quite a surprise!
Good thing there's Amazon 😉
Yeah, although I was surprised there were no same-day deliveries of chargers...
Do you have no 'puters at home with usb-c and spare cable?
The watch charger is magsafe-to-usb-c and I have no usb-c charging sockets on anything.
Time to enter the 21st century 🙂
The phone... I expect I can charge it with a USB-A charger and a USB-A-to-USB-C cable (of which I have plenty)... but I expect it to come with a USB-C-to-USB-C cable... Actually, I do have USB-C charging outlets... in my car! 😄
(but I ain't gonna sit in that while I set up my watch, with the engine on)
🙂
I bought a couple of "nano" size 45W USB-C chargers from Amazon which should serve for now...
At least I'm not dealing with iPhones etc, which have forced cable changes on Jay every time she's bought a new phone or watch! 😄
They've been beaten by governments to standardise on usb-c
or...not in america?
Yeah, Jay's next iPhone/Watch will be USB-C only. She's not thrilled about that.
She's been muttering darkly about upgrading her phone and watch for a couple of years. I think she's been waiting for me to pull the plug first, since I held onto my last phone longer than she did, by about a year.
tbh, I rarely see the reason to upgrade anymore. my phone does what i want it to do. I don't need a bazillion pixel resolution phone and ai shoved down my throat
I'll be holding on to my pixel 6 for as long as
My OnePlus 7 Pro has not received any security updates since late 2022 and isn't fully 5G compatible so I don't have much choice...
I would switch to GrapheneOS in an instance, but I think it doesn't support Android Pay and I don't carry any cards with me anymore. Everything is just tap tap tapitty tap.
I'll probably run the new phone "stock" for a while to see how I get on with the basic Samsung "One UI 8" setup (Android 16 -- my 1+ is Android 12)... The guy at T-Mobile couldn't figure out how to operate my 1+ at all, when I took it in for the 4/5G issue when we moved here... He'd never seen the Microsoft Launcher and had no idea how to interact with it 🙂
Samsung generally offer 4 years of O/S upgrades so I should be good thru 2028/2029 with this phone 🙂
I like the stock android phones, less bloat.
However, I only use my phone for signal, whatsapp, slack, email and of course phone calls 🙂
oh, and waze.
My phone has so many apps on it! All of the apps I've added get regular use. Home page: Copilot, Discord, IMDb, United Airlines, Untapped; Authenticator, Chewy, Clock, Settings, Slack; ADT Control, Facebook, Messages, Messenger, Roomba Home; Maps, Phone, Photos, Visual Voicemail, Zulip; Camera, Govee Home, MSN Weather, OHealth, YT Music. The dock: Calendar, Edge, To-Do, Outlook, Kia Access. Below the fold on the dock: various parking and car charging apps, plus my AirMini CPAP, Wallet, Play Store, and Giant Eagle (grocery). And that's all without sliding the home screen up to get at the rest of the apps!
I don't use folders for anything, so that's 30 apps on the home/dock page. 133 apps total (including all the preinstalled crap).
