Mornin'... woke up to everything being wet... I was not expecting rain last night, but at least it's nice and cool this morning...

very unlike California I guess?

seancorfield 2025-08-06T12:38:51.147939Z

In so many ways! The Bay Area, California gets pretty much no rain between March and October. Fairly low humidity. When it does rain, it's cold -- unlike here where it can be 25-30C and pouring with (warm) rain! 🙂

Right now here it's "21C feels like 26C" and it's not even 9 am. High of 29C forecast (will likely feel like 35C, given that it's 83% humidity already).

sounds very different indeed!

thomas 2025-08-06T12:41:25.667189Z

though not sure I'd like the high humidity

In CA, everything dies back to brown dirt in the summer unless you water it. In OH, you never need to water -- and everything stays wonderfully green during the summer.

20 years ago I was in Tucson AZ, for work, 40+ degrees C, but bone dry... then I went on holiday in Mexico, only 28C...but high humidity, that was worse IMHO.

We have family in Phoenix and Tucson (and Jay was born in Tucson), and while it is a "dry heat", it is still ungodly hot there in the summer (and spring and fall/autumn)!

thomas 2025-08-06T12:49:29.116149Z

from what I have heard it has become a lot worse in the last 20 years. getting hot much earlier in the year and staying above 100F for weeks and weeks if not months.

seancorfield 2025-08-06T12:51:04.049799Z

Yeah, I have a bunch of friends there and they often start posting pics of 100F+ thermostats etc in April 🙂 And then in October they post how excited they are to see lows in double-digits...
