¡måning!
In contrast to the UK's disaster of a covid-19 tracking app, the German one is open source (here's the server https://github.com/corona-warn-app/cwa-server , the source for the apps is available too), and they seem to be doing various sensible things (like CI)
I don't like the idea of Google and apple being fed all this information. I've made an effort to keep away from them, and now the government decides my safety is dependent on them?!
google and apple aren't being fed privacy-invading information... it's just regularly regenerated random-ids : https://support.google.com/android/answer/9888358?hl=en-GB
the failed uk gov approach was far more privacy invading
Definitely
Plus the google/apple one’s are actually reliable
I'm not going to install it either way, but yeah, the UK government's version seemed much (and illegal, according to some)
morning
does anyone have a good grasp on this student nurses thing? I'm keen to hate on this incompetent government as much as anyone but I think I don't understand the issues
final year student nurses had their work placements expanded so that they could provide COVID-19 cover
and now these placements are being finished a month before originally planned
and now they need to graduate and apply for NHS jobs Is there more to it than that?
things can always get worse
true that
'hybrid' = 'face saving'
turns out that no, you can't have that either
It's not so much that the US has "given up", more like it never had a clue in the first place.
Trump really wants the virus to just "go away" so it will stop spoiling his reelection chances. He stopped the regular pandemic briefings because they just showed how bad it is. He's actively trying to suppress information about the virus and focus instead on something he can control.
It's why he's so upset with the BLM protests -- he doesn't actually care about black or brown people, he just wants them to stop making a fuss because it makes him look bad 😞
I mean I do wonder if that strategy as disgusting as it is could be successful? How bad does it have to get before it stops being an abstract problem happening to other people?
Polling and research suggests that his supporters mostly think either the virus is a hoax or it has gone away -- unless they know someone personally who has experienced it.
At this rate most of them will know someone who has personally experienced it by November.
That doesn’t seem to stop some of them https://twitter.com/aravosis/status/1274355082402955269
