The impression I got was that it's supposed to be possible to achieve above-average speeds with low effort.

I picked it for sheer novelty

I found I'd invested so much time into learning the Maltron key layout that I just ported it

it annoys me that you cannot configure SHIFT chars though;

= can only have a SHIFT char of +

I suppose I could always configure a SHIFT equivalent as a new layer

I've considered building that hack

but I just have a symbol layer for my layout anyway

I ultimately couldn't get my muscle memory locked in on the ergodox

ended up going to the crkbd and that's been my daily for 18 months now

got it pretty much perfect on the third try, heh

Yeah borrowed an ergodox from a colleague for a while and really didn’t gel with it.

I found it too big

which is weird cos it doesn't have loads of keys

but that's why a 42 key worked for me I think

there's so few keys that when you're learning a radically new layout it doesn't require as much brainpower

Oh I looked at the Corne recently as I feel like building another keyboard. I’ve been back on the atreus since lockdown. Replaced the old original firmware with QMK

once you've learnt a new layout, can you quickly switch back to a layout you already knew, like speaking languages - or is it more like upside-down-glasses, and takes a while to switch back ?

like, I can type fine on a regular keyboard, it usually takes me a minute of hitting enter in the wrong place or something

Yeah it would. Blank atreus is already pretty minimal tbf.

I don’t have a problem switching to a normal (row staggered) keyboard from a columnar one, can almost type as fast on one. I’ve never tried a non qwerty layout though

weirdly I can type faster on a regular keyboard still

years of writing essays and whatnot I guess... but I find that my fingers are less tired and the smaller keeb feels better to use so that's the main attraction

@U050CJW4Q I'm enjoying SA as for such a small flat board it gives it a slightly domed profile

also the THWOCK sound is so satisfying

but I do wonder if the typing feel of GMK is more where my heart is ultimately at

@U79NZHC6A Nice. I wish I could change mine easily. My atreus is matias so can only get alps keycaps. My keyboardio has none and my topre is v limited. Am getting the new keyboardio atreus which is cherry-mx compatible and hotswap so i’ll finally have some flexibility

Yeah I love the thock of my realforce. My Atreus lacks weight and dampening
