Good Morning!

guy07:04:14

ergh what did they do to web slack

dominicm10:04:33

Ripcord is your friend

guy11:04:26

@U08TV6CTC but why did they do it lol, lets stick an extra bar to the top. It just looks ugly to me. Have you found it useful?

tcsavage11:04:33

The search bar no. But being able to group channels into folders looks interesting

guy11:04:26

Yeah when discord did that it was really helpful

guy11:04:40

I don't know why people don't just use discord really. Its free and works very easily.

tcsavage11:04:25

I think the “gamer” focus puts businesses off

3Jane11:04:22

!! I was wondering the same yesterday

3Jane11:04:01

I have heard "discord has a bad reputation" from one business already

3Jane11:04:21

which is a shame considering how much nicer it is to use than the more obvious slack competitors

guy11:04:15

Yeah they had an update to remove the gamer aspect @U08TV6CTC

guy11:04:45

From their marketing sorry haha

guy12:04:46

@U82DUDVMH I cant see why discord would have a bad rep tbh. You cant start ur own server then set all the permissions really easily. 🤷

tragiclifestories13:04:19

I'm in a few Discords, it's good enough. I don't use it for gaming at all but don't feel like a second-class citizen or anything. Big missing feature is threads though.

acron13:04:31

I remember when threads were introduced to Slack and thinking "when will people ever use this?" and now it's a staple of my day-to-day

3Jane13:04:53

threads are a good way to start an adhoc, opt-in group chat

3Jane13:04:51

I'm sure they'll add this functionality eventually 😄

dominicm13:04:16

2 things: - lots of people don't like the slack thread ux, so they might be trying to find a better one - some people don't like the effect on conversation flow. Maybe their audience need it less, and the risk to conversation flow is too high.

guy14:04:01

So i find threads for learning to be useful, But i find threads for conversations between colleagues to be annoying. Threads here is great! I can pop a message and come back to it hours later. Why would i need a thread if i'm asking someone or a team directly about something. Discord chat can be very fast but theirs search history etc, I really like the app haha.

tragiclifestories14:04:30

I find it's useful for teams with, let's say, high-touch stakeholders of one sort and another - so specific queries can be sort of quarantined within a thread and not dominate the flow of the public channel

I have to say, I do miss it in discord quite a lot. If you want to reply to something 2 pages up, you basically have to @ whoever wrote it which is a bit rude really. The slack thread inbox is a nice 'soft' notification ...

This looks grim haha
